What Are Antioxidants?
Antioxidants are compounds found in many foods, especially colourful fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, nuts, seeds and legumes. Examples include vitamin C, vitamin E, carotenoids, polyphenols and anthocyanins.
Where to Find Them
- Berries, cherries and grapes
- Leafy greens and broccoli
- Carrots, pumpkin and sweet potato
- Cocoa, tea and coffee
- Nuts, seeds, herbs and spices
Easy Ways to Add Variety
Use a simple colour goal: include at least two different plant colours in a meal. Add berries to breakfast, leafy greens to lunch, or herbs and spices to dinner.
A varied diet is more useful than relying on one single ingredient. Rotate foods you enjoy and keep preparation simple.
