Two Different Approaches
Intermittent fasting and calorie restriction are two structured ways people organise food intake. They are not the same, and neither approach is right for everyone.
Calorie Restriction
Calorie restriction focuses on the amount of food consumed across the day or week. People may use smaller portions, meal planning or a set eating plan.
Intermittent Fasting
Intermittent fasting focuses on timing. Some people use a shorter eating window, skip a meal, or follow a planned schedule on certain days.
Choosing a Suitable Pattern
The practical choice is usually the one you can follow comfortably while still eating a varied diet with enough protein, fibre, fruits, vegetables and fluids. Social meals, training schedules, work shifts and personal preferences all matter.
General information only. Seek professional advice before starting fasting or a restrictive eating plan, especially if you are pregnant, have a condition affected by meal timing, take medication or have a history of disordered eating.
